Description for case is given below :
This is an effective case in an MBA module devoted to the accounting process and the preparation of the three basic financial statements; it is also an excellent exam case. A simple diagram of the three basic financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows) is presented and used to capture, codify, and communicate the effects of a series of typical business events. A manager must understand (1) which parts of the financial diagram are affected; (2) in what direction (i.e., increase or decrease); and (3) by what dollar amount, all the while keeping the foundational equation of Assets = Liabilities + Owner’s Equity in balance. The case also provides students with the opportunity to prepare a simple statement of cash flows using two sequential balance sheets. Finally, it presents the opportunity for students to work backward from a balance sheet and statement of cash flows to craft the beginning of the year’s balance sheet.

Description for case is given below :
This case pertains to the foundational underpinnings of the accounting process and the statement of cash flows. In Part I, students are not given a list of business events to record, but rather, they must ascertain what they were from a 2011 balance sheet, a 2012 balance sheet, and a 2012 income statement. Part II requires students to prepare a 2012 statement of cash flows using the same three financial statements as given for Part I. In Part III, students must rely on a 2011 balance sheet and a 2011 statement of cash flows to work backward to derive the 2010 year-end balance sheet. There are two versions of this case: The Option 2 case is a bit more challenging than the Option 1 case. Instructors should use Option 2 if they feel students are well grounded in their understanding of financial statement relationships and the customary financial reporting of a typical set of business events. Both cases reinforce students’ learning related to the accounting process and the connectivity between the financial statements. Please note that only one version of the case should be used due to the existence of some overlap between the two.

Description for case is given below :
In late 1999, three young entrepreneurs are evaluating which, if any, of four companies to buy. They have been searching for a small business to acquire, using the “search fund” concept to raise capital to finance their acquisition search and, ultimately, their acquisition. The case relates the concept of the search fund and the experience of the three entrepreneurs in their first nine months of operation. The tasks for the student are to evaluate the progress of the entrepreneurs to date and to recommend action on the four investment opportunities. Little numerical figure-work is required; rather, the analytical challenge is in testing the suitability of investments against strategic and financial criteria. The objectives of the case are to: (1) Explore the attributes of efficient and effective acquisition search, (2) Illuminate the concept of a search fund and the requisites for search-fund success, and (3) Exercise students’ skills in the analysis of investment opportunities.

Description for case is given below :
This case examines the importance of liquidity to financial markets, using the dramatic volatility of mutual fund flows in 2008 as an example. While the case is targeted to MBA students in an investments or portfolio management course, it is also appropriate for an advanced undergraduate course. It is written from the perspective of a fund manager who has experienced significant redemptions in 2008 and is considering whether or not to use ReFlow Management LLC’s “liquidity provision” service. The case requires students to examine the nature and magnitude of mutual fund trading costs, how fund flows may induce additional trading and how ReFlow’s innovative service attempts to resolve these issues. Through this analysis, students will better understand what is meant by the term “liquidity” and how liquidity, or a lack thereof, can negatively impact portfolio performance.
