Description for case is given below :
By 2006, the Point Lisas Industrial Estate (PLIPDECO) consisted of approximately 44 industrial sites on 1,000 hectares of land. Some in Trinidad advocated the creation of additional estates as well as expansion into business like aluminum, which required a great deal of energy. The government of Trinidad had continued a menu of tax exemptions and incentives, and substantial additional foreign investments were expected. Meanwhile, Hugo Chavez had become President of Venezuela and had instituted a socialist, anti-American regime that was seizing assets and rewriting contracts with foreign investors. Trinidad looked like a favourable investment site compared with Venezuela. However, not all was happiness. The businesses involved with PLIPDECO needed relatively few employees. Some in Trinidad referred to this reality as the “curse of oil.”

Description for case is given below :
After a series of strikes in its Manesar manufacturing plant in 2011, Maruti Suzuki India Limited is beginning to recover from the after-effects of the strike. Amid this tense atmosphere, a minor brawl breaks out between supervisors and workers, then escalates into full-scale violence and arson, which results in the death of the plant’s general manager of human resources. The company locks down the plant, and law enforcement agencies initiate criminal proceedings against the workers. The incident raises serious questions about industrial relations at the plant and, in particular, the suitability of the Japanese management style in the Indian context.

Description for case is given below :
The owner of Tesco Cranes Engineers Pvt. Ltd. was considering the impact of various issues that had led to the closure of the company’s sub-assembly plant in December 2012. Despite his efforts, he had not been able to stop workers from joining a regional trade union in July 2012. Immediately after joining the trade union, workers had slowed down production and gone on strike. Later, the plant had been closed by the owner. The company had suffered a production decline as a consequence of the strike and the subsequent plant closure. In view of these unexpected events, the owner was facing a dilemma. On one hand, he was wondering whether he should take proactive action to prevent a similar situation from occurring in the other two Tesco Cranes Engineers Pvt. Ltd. plants in the future. On the other hand, he was questioning whether it had been ethical of him to close the sub-assembly plant; he knew that this decision had left all of those workers unemployed and helpless, with most of them doing menial work or returning to their villages.

Description for case is given below :
In 2011, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India’s largest car manufacturer, had three strikes in its new plant in Manesar, India. Although workers wanted recognition of a new union along with improved working conditions, MSIL insisted that workers be represented through the existing union that operated at a nearby plant. Tensions escalated to the point of violence and the matter caught the attention of national media, political parties, national trade unions, and central and state governments. Due to these strikes, MSIL struggled in terms of reputation and market share, and its component suppliers stockpiled inventory. After a series of hectic parleys and stressful episodes, the two parties reached an agreement. However, there were serious doubts as to its longevity and whether Suzuki’s Japanese management style was suitable in an Indian context.
