Description for case is given below :
In the late 1990s, multinational retailing giant Tesco selected a joint venture with the Samsung Group as its market entry strategy into South Korea and created a new brand, Homeplus. Subsequently, the management of Homeplus implemented various policies aimed at localizing the business while also introducing business practices from Tesco’s british headquarters. It invested in growth and diversification through large discount stores offering an “all in one spot” shopping experience, small-sized super-supermarkets, private brands and online shopping. At the same time, the Korean retailing industry had become much more dynamic as competition intensified between various types of market players, including strong competitors affiliated with local business groups. Homeplus needs to rethink its position in a highly challenging market environment.

Description for case is given below :
“In October 2005, PPG pioneered a new model for online apparel retailing in China. Targeting low-end men’s apparel, PPG’s new business model met with great initial success due to its responsive supply chain, lighter distribution channel, and the brand established by costly advertising. However, underlying limitations of PPG’s business model led to its eventual failure. Followers learned from both PPG’s success and failure. The best practices of VANCL provided a good example of the evolution of a business model, which made VANCL the new leader in the online retail industry. To show the evolving characteristics of the apparel retailing business model, this case describes a successive two-stage story, in which each company made improvements based on other forerunners.”

This case focuses on Infibeam, a small, new e-commerce company in India, as an illustration of innovative B2B contractual agreements that enabled it to acquire a significant customer base at a very low cost. However, it must now develop innovative strategies for marketing communication, customer value proposition and a new IT e-commerce rural platform in order to achieve its required growth estimates and raise capital for a new project in cooperation with a state government. Internet retailing is rapidly growing in India, but it does contain challenges: the cost of acquiring customers is high; per person spending amount is smaller; and customers are spread all over the country, often 2,000 kilometres away from supply centres.
