Description for case is given below :
The director of a subsidiary campus of a national university is faced with many problems: he is personally overworked as both manager of the new campus and as a lecturer; there are too many part-time lecturers as compared to full-time lecturers on staff, leading to a loss of commitment and morale; a decision has to be made about buying or leasing the newly renovated building in which the campus is located; and, most importantly, all of his decisions are subject to approval by the main administration of the university, which manages the funds allotted by the government and raised through tuitions. Without controlling the campus’s own bank account, the director is unable to implement the initiatives he believes will allow the school to grow in a sustainable manner. The issues that arise as a direct result of this arrangement provide an interesting perspective on the difficulties involved in managing a small subsidiary of a large public organization.

Description for case is given below :
Hugo Chavez often pointed to Simon Bolivar as the model for his political philosophy, centered on Bolivar’s vision of a unified and independent Latin America. In 1998, Chavez ran in the presidential election, on a platform that opposed what he termed the “savage neoliberalism” of the 1990s. Chavez’s speeches in the presidential election campaign emphasized the importance of “national sovereignty” and “economic justice.” As president, Chavez passed a new Hydrocarbons Law to enhance the share oil revenue that would be owed to the government; he created a new government-owned bank; he introduced a radical land reform law; and he encouraged takeovers by the government and employees of privately-owned factories. Venezuela sold oil to Cuba at reduced prices in return for professionals, especially doctors who created health missions in many low-income areas. Chavez sought to foment socialist anti-American revolutions throughout Latin America. In the context of this socialist agenda, analysts expected that Venezuela’s economy would experience serious challenges in the coming years. The combination of high inflation, fiscal pressure, and slow growth would be a boiling political cauldron in which violent opposition could ferment.

Description for case is given below :
Nanpo (Holdings) Ltd., a Hong Kong-based Chinese food distributor, is planning for its initial public offering on the stock exchange of Hong Kong. Nanpo was established in 1981 with a mandate to be the sole distributor of poultry, fresh water fish, livestock, and fruit and vegetables produced in Guangdong, the bordering province of mainland China. Throughout the years, Nanpo has built up an admirable market share in many food categories and a distribution channel of 500 wholesalers. In 1993, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation in the People’s Republic of China reaffirmed its sole distributor status. The management of Nanpo has developed an aggressive growth plan, which includes new food processing facilities and forward integration into retail outlets and restaurant chains. Nanpo has turned to the capital market of Hong Kong to finance its future growth. Nanpo’s management has decided to float 25% of the company and has engaged a local merchant bank, Hinson Capital, as its lead underwriter. Three weeks away from the planned IPO, Jack Yang, a director of Nanpo, is once again reviewing the details of pricing.

Description for case is given below :
It was May 16, 2012, and the highly anticipated pricing of Facebook Inc.’s initial public offering (IPO) was underway. An analyst at CXTechnology Fund was preparing to speak to the lead underwriter about his final interest in the deal. The analyst had reviewed Facebook’s phenomenal growth, its profitable business model and the competitive landscape for the social networking industry. The IPO appeared to be oversubscribed with heavy interest from institutional and retail investors alike, but the valuation seemed expensive, even by technology standards. The analyst needed to make a decision on whether to buy shares in the IPO or not.
