The co-found of NEWAD, a media company with $10 million in revenues, is being presented with an interesting opportunity for a large tobacco firm: exclusive access to 3,000 locations for a tobacco sampling program. Description for case is given below :
The co-founder of NEWAD, a media company, is considering expanding his scope of operations from washroom advertising to include distributing free postcards. On one hand, offering an extra advertising vehicle to his clients would boost his topline results and would match the postcard offering planned by his larger competitor. On the other hand, launching a new line of business could distract his small firm from pursuing growth in its core business; procuring advertising sites and selling advertising space on washroom ads to advertisers.

Description for case is given below :
The environmental manager at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has finally received the detailed environmental and social risk assessment of the Qatargas II LNG Project. RBC was a potential participant in a syndicated loan for a project financing venture in Qatar. The project would extract and process liquid natural gas there and transport it to the United Kingdom market. RBC was among the first banks to use an environmental and social risk assessment process based on the Equator Principles that supported the principles underlying sustainable development. However, environmental non-government organizations (NGOs) further complicated any financing decision; they were only too quick to point out publicly any shortcomings. Moreover, it was not clear if problems might occur in monitoring and enforcing any loan covenants. Two basic questions remained: first, does the Qatargas II Project make sense to RBC as it attempts to balance economic, environmental, and social performance (i.e., the triple-bottom line); and second, do the Equator Principles provide a competitive advantage?

Description for case is given below :
In 2004 CCL Industries Inc. was a leading producer of value-added outsourcing custom products and packages for numerous large consumer packaged goods companies. CCL’s chief executive officer and vice-chair faced an important strategic decision. The CEO was contemplating selling the custom manufacturing division of CCL that was the basis for its founding, and still contributed approximately 34 per cent of overall earnings. Although the firm had acquired and divested many business units throughout its history, this divestment was perhaps the most significant in terms of its historical importance. The divestment of this division represented a major change to the essence and strategy of the firm. CCL was fortunate to have a very active, supportive yet independent board of directors. The CEO had to ensure that if he recommended divesting the custom manufacturing division, he would need to be very well prepared for some intense questioning from the board regarding the soundness of his proposal. The board took their role as stewards of the corporation very seriously.

In 2005, the vice president of sales and marketing for the Canadian division of Spectrum Brands Inc. must determine his next steps regarding the structure of his sales force. With these changes, Spectrum had become a leading supplier of consumer batteries, lawn and garden care products, specialty pet supplies, and shaving and grooming products. The vice president of sales and marketing was charged with the task of creating a national sales force from the teams of the newly merged companies. Knowing the importance of the sales function to each of these companies, he wanted to ensure, despite the differences among the diverse groups, that he still maintained a team which would effectively and efficiently continue to increase the sales of each business unit.
